Psychological Evaluations

What:

A psychological or psychoeducational evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of an individual's cognitive, academic, and socio-emotional functioning, used to identify learning strengths and weaknesses and to inform educational and treatment interventions.

Why:

The data provided from a thorough evaluation provides a snapshot of an individual's current level of functioning. Often, a psychological evaluation provides diagnostic clarity so that appropriate support can be offered to the individual; however, evaluation does not always result in a diagnosis.

How:

The first step in obtaining an evaluation is to schedule an intake with Dr. Jurrens or Dr. Davis. The intake is approximately 60 minutes virtually that often occurs with the adult being tested. In the case of a child, the appointment is with the parent(s)/guardian. This allows for open and honest discussion about strengths and weaknesses without embarrassing the child. A testing protocol specific to the needs of the individual is discussed at the intake appointment If testing is warranted, a testing session will be scheduled.

Who:

Dr. Jurrens or Dr. Davis administers, scores, and interprets all testing. Technicians are not used for any portion of the evaluation. It is REQUIRED that a parent or guardian stay on the premises for the duration of testing unless specific arrangements are made in advance.

What to expect next:

Once testing is completed, we will schedule a feedback session. During the feedback, you will be provided with an explanation of scores as well as treatment recommendations. After the session, the report will be completed to include the feedback discussion and sent to you via the patient portal.

What is the payment policy? Are services covered by insurance?

Services can be paid directly to KPI using Health Savings Cards or a debit/credit card.  Payments are made through the patient portal and are expected at the time of service.

Dr. Jurrens is considered an out-of-network provider. That does not necessarily mean that your insurance will not cover the cost of the services. Although KPI will not file the billing with your insurance company, a detailed Superbill will be provided which can be filed electronically. Most companies offer a level of reimbursement to the families if an out-of-network deductible has been met. Please contact your insurance provider with questions regarding coverage and reimbursement.
